Neglected tropical diseases, NTDs are a group of communicable diseases of public health importance that are associated with poverty, poor housing conditions and inadequate water supply.
They include: Onchocerciasis (Inarun), Lymphatic Filariasis (Iwuse), Schistosomiasis (Atosi Aja) and STH, Abdominal Worms (Aran Inu). All of which are found in Ogun State.
These group of diseases causes blindness, skin diseases, Shortage of blood, malnutrition etc.
The Ogun State Ministry of Health in conjunction with UNICEF is conducting a mass treatment for Onchocerciasis (Inaarun) and Lymphatic Filariasis, Elephantiasis (Iwuse) with MECTIZAN and ALBENDAZOLE across the State, from ages 5 years and above.
The drugs shall be distributed FREE of charge by health workers and trained individuals in our communities from the 30th of August till the 7th of September.
The drugs are SAFE and have NO SIDE EFFECTS.
