It has come to the attention of Riders and Owners of Motorcycles Organization, Ogun State (ROMO) the story written by some national dailies on the protest which occured at Ojodu, Berger area of Ogun State where an Hausa man, Abdullahi was killed, while many others were injured.
ROMO needs to set the records straight for Public understanding.
Some motorcyclists, especially the Hausas who were using the motorcycles for commercial purposes did not know the boundaries of Lagos and Ogun States in that Ojodu Alagbole Area. Since they were plying their Okadas for commercial purposes, they were expected to follow the rules and regulations of those States, in terms of COVID-19 directives, Transport unions and others. It is a known fact that Lagos State Government has banned the activities of Motorcycles Unions in the State but some people are still engaging in illegal motorcycles Unions activities in the State.
ROMO and two other motorcycles Unions in Ogun State Government have been complying with the directives of the Government on the COVID-19. We had abhored, discouraged and sanctioned our members from carrying two passengers on a motorcycle as Ogun State Government directed. This did not go down well with some marauders from Lagos who instigated some Hausas to go against these directives so as to be getting money from them.
Ipso facto, Policemen arrested those who violated the directives, some of their Motorcycles were seized and the Hausa Motorcycle riders and their sponsors in their numbers went Adigboluja police station to protest. They attacked and broken the wind screen of some vehicles in the police station. This forced the policemen to disperse them, as they also came to attack the police station with their weapons. One of them, Abdullah was hit by the bullet and eventually died.
The erupted crisis was between the Nigeria Police and the Hausas. It did not involve ROMO members as the news was spread. The price of Motorcycles ticket had been up to ₦500, even before the emergence of Prince Dapo Abiodun as Governor of Ogun State. The issue of the ticket price did not occur just now.
