Ogun Launches First Annual Operational Plan for health sector

In its bid to ensure proper planning and effective implementation of all health-related interventions in the year 2021, the Ogun State Government has disseminated printed copies of the Annual Operational Plan (AOP) and Monitoring and Evaluation Plan ( MEP) to all stakeholders in the health sector.

The Commissisioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, during the official flag-off of the dissemination of the AOP and MEP documents, said Her ministry understood the imperative  of having a coordinated approach towards achieving the State Government's objectives for the health sector.
Unveiling the documents, Coker said the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration had envisioned a health sector that will lead to a reduction in maternal and infant mortality and an increase in the life expectancy of all residents of the State, pointing out that the 2021 AOP will further help realise the set goals.

She said that the 2021 AOP is the first time the State Government would develop a holistic plan aimed at defining the trajectory and timeline for achieving sustainable results, adding the state government would continue to invest in the health sector as a means of improving the well-being of residents.
"In order to attain effective implementation of interventions, improve coordination and harness dwindling health resources for efficiency, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun deemed it necessary to provide all necessary support that will enable the Ministry of Health to develop its Annual Operational Plan for 2021,"

"The AOP, which was developed using the Ogun State Strategic Health Development Plan 2 (SSHDP 2018-2022), had input from partners, managements staff of MDAs in the health sector and other relevant stakeholders", she said.

She expressed optimism that about 80% level of implementation of the plan would have been achieved by the end of 2021, saying this would result in coordinated support for health and increase in domestic health financing such that would result in improved health for Ogun residents.

While appreciating the development partners that supported the production of the Annual Health Plan, the Commissioner called on all stakeholders to strictly adhere to the interventions and activities outlined in therein.

In his Goodwill Message, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tayo Lawal said the AOP was a product of qualitative and purposeful leadership, adding that the plan would help government achieve its goal of qualitative and affordable healthcare for all.

The Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Kayode Kushimo lauded the visionary leadership of the Commissioner for Health which brought about the realization of this feat, noting that quarterly meeting would be held to access the implementation.
