Miss. Ifeoluwa Adetutu Seriki, an Alumna of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Department of Computer Science, was received earlier today in the Rector's Office for the presentation of her President’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Honours Award to the management of the institution.
Ifeoluwa was one of the 110 ex-corpers President Muhammadu Buhari offered automatic employment in the Federal Civil Service and scholarship for the pursuit of post-graduate studies up to the doctoral level in any university in Nigeria.
Similarly, President Buhari, who spoke on Friday at the virtual 2018/2019 President’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) honours award ceremony held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja also announced cash rewards for the former corps members.
Ifeoluwa was among the young men and women being honoured to have excelled in the four cardinal programmes of the scheme namely: orientation course, primary assignment, community development service and winding-up/passing-out, which formed the basis of assessment for the honours award.
While presenting the award winner to the rector, Mrs. Alaran described her feat as a welcome development for MAPOLY that modeled her to be a good ambassador of the institution.
She recalled that in the course of her HND study, Ifeoluwa related well with other students, and that she performed credibly in her course work and even in her project in which she supervised.
Also, in her speech, Ifeoluwa narrated how her curiosity and goodwill while observing her compulsory NYSC in Ibadan, Oyo State unknowingly earned her the presidential award as 2018 Batch B corps member.
Ifeoluwa explained that after the orientation course, she was posted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ibadan. During the course of her service, she participated in the 2019 General Elections as Polling Officer, which opened her eyes to the plight of pupils of the school.
Furthermore, she hinted that it was while at the school that she noticed dilapidated situation in the school, as she had to consult her coordinator and many other philanthropists in the state for sponsorship of the project, in which they yielded positively.
Part of the projects she was mobilised resources and carried out in IMG Primary School, Alakia Oke Elewa, Ibadan included drilling of a motorised deep well; perimeter fencing to beef up the security; provision of uniform and sandals for 30 indigent pupils, and provision of school gate.
She also donated food items and toiletries to inmates of Jesus Children Orphanage Home, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.
However, the rector who could not hide his joy commended Ifeoluwa for exemplary role in alleviating the sufferings of the pupils in Ibadan while serving her fatherland. He added that she has brought honour to MAPOLY at the time when the institution was just recuperating from internal crisis.
Also, Dr. Odedeji affirmed that her award has brought great relief to the institution and projected the school in good image. “When I read through all the projects you did, I have no doubt that you deserved the award. You demonstrated your kindness. Whatever God gives you, you don’t have the urge to monopolise it for yourself.
“You identify with them, demonstrated your past, remembered that you were like them as young pupil. You operated from the mentality of care and aspiration to better their lots.
“Education won’t be relevant if it will not add value to members of the society. You applied the intellect in addition to co-curricula of the institution. We are very happy with you to have represent us well.
“Others should emulate you. Our labour was not in vain. May this award brings more honour for you and your family.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Babajide who gave the vote of thanks applauded the award winner for making the institution proud. He hereby thanked the institution management, and lecturers for given her the leverage to excel.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of Award of Recognition by the institution to Ifeoluwa, making her the first student in the history of the polytechnic to be given such award.
The Registrar, Emmanuel Oladipupo Adeleye; Bursar, Abdul-Fatai Adisa Yekini; Director of School of Science and Technology, Dr. Oluwole Babajide; Head of Department, Computer Science, Mrs. Mistura Alaran; lecturers and many others were in attendance.
