A Staff Nurse named Colleth Oparah working with the State Hospital Ijaiye Abeokuta was assaulted by a group of thugs inside the hospital on 25th of March 2021.
He noticed these thugs on a motorcycle were following his car on his way to work. They attempted severally to block his way on Iyana Mortuary/Ijaiye road but he was able to escape and find his way into the hospital in other to get assistance. These thugs followed him into the hospital premises and he was attacked by the four of them several times to the extent that he sustained various grades of injuries and blood gushing out of his ear.
The securities at the gate could do but little. They all excaped before the arrival of able men.
This is not the first assault on Nurses and other healthcare professionals in this hospital.
The Nigerian Nurses who are supposed to be protected and valued by our system because of the enormous responsibilities on them to the Nigerian citizens in Making them attain and maintain a healthy state, but that’s not the story here in Nigeria with the citizens terrorising and harassing Nurses and other healthcare professionals.
With this Pandemic situation and the contribution of the nurses as frontliners in the fight against this #COVID19, nurses deserve to be motivated and not to feel unsafe in the discharge of care to the public.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!
We hereby state categorically that nurses at State Hospital Ijaiye, Abeokuta no longer feel secured, and he who is not secure cannot secure or care for others in dire need of health care.
We call on the Government to review the security of lives in the hospital immediately, without which we may not guarantee the discharge of our services as professional Nurses!
