The Ogun State Government has re-emphasised its commitment to the welfare and socio-economic development of women in the State.
Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele made this known in Odeda Local Government Area, during the State steering committee implementation assessment of the Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP)
Engr. Salako-Oyedele, revealed that several policies had been put in place to develop women, adding that the current administration has exhibited unalloyed and unflinching support to the success of the project.
She said the project was aimed at supporting the government's goal in ensuring gender equality and economic empowerment for women in the country, noting it would demonstrate the impact of a multidimensional approach to overcome market failures limiting women's socio-economic outcomes in Nigeria.
“The implementation meeting is in fulfillment of the mandate of the State’s steering Committee to oversee and assess the projects with a view to providing guidance for the participants”, the Deputy stated.
Salako-Oyedele appreciated the Federal Government for the project, charging traditional leaders and other stakeholders in the communities to mobilise and encourage more women in the areas to enable them benefit in the initiative, in order to improve their livelihood.
In her welcome address, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Funmi Efuwape, expressed delight at the success the programme had recorded so far and the commitment the beneficiaries have shown towards it.
In her remark, Chairman, Odeda Local Government, Mrs. Folashade Adeyemo, commended the women in the council area for their support, urging them to use the fund judiciously to encourage government to do more.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mrs. Rukayat Adewunmi, lauded the State government for initiating the programme, towards alleviating the sufferings of women, saying they would make use of the knowledge gained from the programme
