The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has condemned the killing of one of its staff, Bukola Fatinoye and her husband, Kehinde Fatinoye who were reportedly killed by unknown arsonist at the Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Ibara  Abeokuta,  Ogun State Capital.

An online news platform, Pen Pushing Media, has earlier reported that the couple was killed in a mysterious fire, shortly after returning from the cross over New Year church service by suspected arsonists.

The report has it that the wife was a staff of FUNAAB while the husband was a staff of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Abeokuta until their gruesome death.

It was also reported that the suspected arsonists trailed the couple to their private residence before setting the home ablaze and  also  whisked away the son of the victims.

According to Penpushing Media, family source at the residence of the deceased said the suspected arsonists were reported to have kidnapped the son alongside the housemaid, and threw them into a river along Adigbe-Obada axis of the town.

Speaking with Fackt News, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of FUNAAB, Kolawole Adepoju condemned the sad incident, describing it as unjust.

Adepoju said the wife, Bukola Fatinoye was not an ordinary staff of the institution but a well known staff.

The PRO stressed that the university community received the sad news as a rude shock,  and hinted  that Bukola was a Principal  Confidential Secretary at the university until her death.

He said “The wife was not just an ordinary staff member, she was a well known staff member. This is very pathetic for us at the University now, moreso, it happened on the first day of the new year. She is a Senior Confidential Secretary of the university. It came to us in the university as a rude shock”.

Adepoju also stated that the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University,  Prof Olusola  Kehinde has visited the deceased residence where the incident happened to condole with the family.

He revealed that the victims had recently lost their son.

“The VC, Prof Olusola Kehinde has visited the place to commiserate with the family. This woman that we are talking about just lost her son, now imagine losing both of them to gruesome murder. This cannot continue, this is not helping our society.

“In a society where you cannot sleep with your two eyes closed. Security should not be left in the hands of the government or security agency alone, I think every member of the society should complement security efforts by being vigilant.

“We are praying that God will keep the family that the deceased left behind as well as the entire university community  the fortitude to bear the loss. We trust that the government and security agency that will do the needful in unravelling and getting justice done on the perpetrators of this heinous act”.
