The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture has commended the Ministry of Agriculture for its efforts in ensuring massive food production, thereby mitigating the effects of food inflation in the state and nation.
Committee Chairman, Honorable Waliu Owode, made this observation during a presentation of the ministry’s half-year budget performance at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta.
Honorable Owode praised the ministry’s management team, led by Commissioner Bolu Owootomo, for their achievements and encouraged them to invest in heavy farm equipment to enhance agricultural production and achieve sustained food security and urged the ministry to partner with the private sector to achieve massive food production.
The lawmakers also commended the management of the State Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) for increased revenue generation.
In response, Commissioner Owootomo outlined the ministry’s initiatives to achieve food security through land allocation, value addition to farm produce, and encouraging farmers to register under the Ogun State Transformation Economic Project (OGSTEP) scheme.
In a related development, the Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Honorable Samusideen Lawal, praised the Ministry of Environment’s management team for their proactive efforts in tackling flooding issues across the state.
He also applauded their success in revenue generation and urged the ministry to intensify flood prevention efforts in other areas.
