Today, Thursday 12th of September, 2024; the Comptroller of Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Command- Comptroller James Ojo met with an envoy of Market men and women that constitute Babalojas and Iyalojas across Ipokia Local Government to address issues that surround the ill-treatment from men of security forces on our roads while transporting their goods and farm produces which exacerbate the skyrocketing and exorbitant prices of goods and commodities in Ipokia Local Government.

The meeting with the market men and women was an extension of an olive branch to the yelling and yearning of the forum in the last meeting held with all the security heads at the Nigeria Customs Service Conference Room, Idiroko border to address the issue of PMS supply to our Local Government, shenanigans of men of security operatives amongst other unprofessional conducts on our roads.
Majorly, the Association of Market Men and Women tabled all they have been facing in the hands of men of the Nigeria Customs Service and other security formations on our roads while commuting their goods in or out of Ipokia Local Government and most especially the barbaric act of the Customs Campboys that had claimed several lives due to their selfish financial starvation and unruly activities; likewise the heavy extortion that had extended its venomous fang from security men through their rank and file on the road.

The comptroller in his congeniality expresses his disappointment about the conduct of his men and also promises that immediate action would be taken by visiting all checkpoints along our roads and a strict order to be communicated to allow free passage of all Nigeria-made goods and farm produces coming in or going out of the Local Government without further delay, hindrances or any form of extortion. In his statement, he further enjoined the Market men and women to always report any erring officer either men of the Nigeria Customs Service or any other sister agency extorting them by putting a call through to him or visiting his office to lodge an official complaint provided they are legitimate businesses while handing out his phone numbers.
Emphatically, the representatives of the market men and women expressed their flabbergasted concerns about being called to a meeting between the Nigeria Customs Service and the youths to address issues that directly affect them in the course of their trades and businesses; and also as it concerns the people. It was recorded to be a maiden meeting with the command and particularly the Comptroller to air their concerns after a month of Sundays.

Also, the Comptroller in his leadership capacity as promised during the last meeting held with the forum’s representatives provided a memo addressed to the Office of National Security Adviser (NSA) through the Comptroller General of Customs to ease the restrictions on fuel supply, approve more fueling stations and increase the supply of PMS to Ipokia Local Government that was duly signed by him; was made available for the forum’s representatives present at the meeting today for perusal. This was in correspondence with our take homes from the last meeting as unanimously agreed by everyone present.

The delegation of Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum present at the meeting are Hon. Mautin Oluwatosin Gbehosu- IPYF Welfare Director, Comrade Obanla Taiwo- IPYF PRO, Comrade Adeoye Kafilat- IPYF Treasurer,  Comrade Ogunshina Elizabeth and Comrade Wheto Folake.

Hands will continue to be on deck towards total liberation.

Signed:
Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusegun
General Secretary, Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum (IPYF)
