In a bold step toward strengthening the framework for women’s economic and social empowerment, the Ogun State Government has inaugurated the State Technical Committee (STC) for the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), with a view to deepening institutional collaboration, enhancing project efficiency, and ensuring sustainable impact on women’s livelihoods across the State.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, in company of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Bukola Araba and the Olori of Olowu, Chief Ameenah Matemilola, inaugurated the committee at the Conference room of the Ministry in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
She disclosed that the Committee consisted of a formidable coalition of experts from the Ministries of Agriculture and Food Security, Finance, Industry, Trade and Investment, and Women Affairs, Community Development and Cooperatives, Education, Science and Technology as well as the Chamber of Commerce, priority value-chain associations, and other relevant agencies, reflecting an intentional approach to dismantling barriers that limit women’s participation in the economy.
She explained that the composition of the committee reflected an intentional and integrated approach to tackling the barriers that limit women’s participation in the economy, while reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the present administration to improving the lives of women, especially at the grassroots.
She noted that the initiative builds upon the vision of the founding fathers of the State, strengthening their legacy through renewed strategies for gender inclusion and economic independence.
According to her, “the inauguration of the Committee was a continuation of the success story recorded during the first phase of the Nigeria for Women Project, which earned Ogun State national recognition and commendations for excellence in implementation. I therefore attribute the feat to the collective effort and partnership of all stakeholders, which restored citizens’ confidence in the dividends of democratic governance”.
The Commissioner charged members of the Committee to perform their duties with renewed zeal, professionalism, and patriotic devotion, emphasizing that the Gateway State has built a reputation for excellence that must be sustained. “We are custodians of a legacy, and the confidence reposed in us must not only be justified but surpassed excellently,” she said.
While commending the visionary leadership of the Governor, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Adeleye lauded his steadfast commitment to women’s development and inclusive governance, emphasizing that the present administration’s consistent support has positioned the State as a national model for gender-responsive policy implementation and economic empowerment.
She urged the committee to carry out their responsibilities as outlined in the project framework, including providing technical guidance, reviewing budgets, ensuring proper fund utilization, and monitoring impact delivery. “Behind every policy we shape and every report we analyze are real women and real families whose lives will be transformed,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the committee members, the representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs. Ojikutu Gloria, commended the State Government for the support to the women intervention project, noting that the success recorded at the first phase would encourage them to put in their efforts.
