Ogun plans to facilitate regular eye check for children, aged

The Ogun State Government says that plans are in top gear to commence regular eye check for both the children and aged in order to bring improvement in their sight.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker when she played host to the State Committee on Eye, led by led by Prof. Oluwatoni Onabolu in company of the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary HealthCare Board, in Abeokuta.

Coker said primary health centers across the state would be involved in the eye care, noting the present administration has placed the health sector on the front burner of its activities.

The Commissioner lamented that many children go blind because they can't afford the cost of cataracts surgery, calling on the private sector, donors and philanthropists to join in changing the narrative in eye care in Ogun State.

She said that the present would in the coming year  be committed to conducting training on Opthalmic Nursing at least twice a year in order to keep the practitioners abreast of modern practice.

" Covid-19 has made us to know that healthcare should not be left in the hands of government alone. The need for innovative funding of the health sector now stares us in the face more than ever.

"World over, children and the aged are highly vulnerable. For us as a government, we will not wait until their sight deteriorate, " Coker said.

In her remarks, Prof. Onabolu commended the Commissioner for her creative approach to the need in the health sector since she came on board, promising that the Committee on Eye will not fail to support the government in its quest to improve eye care.
